To minimize infiltration bids from neighbouring countries, Border Security Force has finally developed Smart Fence and it is ready to instal at borders. The main motive of developing this was to fill gaps in unfenced areas like rivers where conventional fencing is not possible to install.
BSF officials said the pilot project to develop laser fence was complete and was expected to be implemented along the western border. BSF has selected 40 locations where laser fence will be used.
It is believed that the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks at Gurdaspur and Pathankot in the recent past had sneaked in through such unfenced gaps.
A LASER fence is a combination of source and detector which acts when someone tries to cross the fence. It comprises of several layers of laser beams that works upto 500 meter deep in water. BSF is also testing some other Hi-tech surveillance gadgets like UAV, Smart Alarm and will shortly install them along borders to foil infiltration attempts.
